Population Pyramids Help
Population pyramids show the distribution of gender by age groups.

The horizontal bars represent the number of individuals in the gender category within each age cohort.

Prior to 2021, the Men+ category refers to Males and the Women+ category refers to Females. Starting in 2021, Women+ includes women and girls, as well as some non-binary persons; Men+ includes men and boys, as well as some non-binary persons.

Population pyramids reflect the underlying demographic processes of fertility (births), mortality (deaths), and migration. The base of the population pyramid reflects fertility: a wide base reflects high fertility (a high proportion of the population is in the younger age categories); a narrow base reflects low fertility. The overall shape of the pyramid reflects mortality: a steeply eroded pyramid with a narrow peak reflects high mortality (a lower proportion of the population is in the older age categories); a more rectangular-shaped pyramid reflects low mortality.
