The variables in this table were based on a 20% sample in 2006 and a 100% sample in 2011 and 2016. This may explain the differences in some geographies, and one should be careful when comparing data between years.

a The minority official language is English in Quebec, and French in all other provinces and territories. This variable is computed by adding the total number of respondents whose first official language was French (English in Quebec) to half of the number of respondents whose first official language was both English and French.
